Levi Torkelson Scholarship
The Cowboy Classic is an annual international and military competition hosted by Alamo Gymnastics and its families.
The Cowboy Classic originally started as the Alamo Men’s Challenge in 2009 and was strictly a men’s competition. In 2013 the competition officially changed its name to the Cowboy Classic and opened its doors to women’s competitive gymnastics in 2016.
The Cowboy Classic was created in honor of Captain Levi Torkelson, a 2001 graduate of the Air Force Academy and a four-year gymnastics letterman. He passed away on December 27th, 2008, at the age of 29.
At the time of his death, Levi served as the assistant coach for the US Air Force Academy Falcons gymnastics team. Levi’s love of gymnastics, incredible leadership skills, and devotion to education led to creating the Levi Torkelson Scholarship, a scholarship made explicitly available to a high school senior gymnast.
The Cowboy Classic 2025 competition continues to work in conjunction with the Levi Torkelson Scholarship to help helps raise funds annually for those dedicated gymnasts working to become leaders in their communities
